EMBRACING THE JOY OF SPRING
TRANSFORMING OUR LIVES

Retreat with Dharma Teacher:
Joanne Friday
in the Tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh

April 21 - 25, 2010
Springwater Center for Meditative Inquiry and Retreats
Springwater, NY

This Spring we have the opportunity to explore, in peace and beauty, the healing and transforming elements within and around us.  We will be celebrating Earth Day by deepening our connection with our true nature, each other and the planet.

“Our positive and negative elements are all organic parts of us.  If we are skilled in the art of embracing and transforming, we can transform the negative elements into positive ones...Mindfulness is organic and   can be fed by other energies. When the energy of mindfulness embraces any other mental formation, it brings about transformation.”..Thich Nhat Hanh, The Path of Emancipation

Joanne Friday is a Dharma Teacher in the Tiep Hien Order . She received  authority to teach from Thich Nhat Hanh, who has been her teacher for  19 years. She has enjoyed offering retreats and Days of Mindfulness for  many sanghas and various groups throughout the Northeast. The transmission of the Dharma has been the greatest gift she has ever received and her greatest joy is passing it on.

RETREAT FORMAT
The retreat is residential or commuter, centering on periods of sitting and walking meditation and daily Dharma talks by the teacher. Work meditation assignments help us practice mindfulness while being active with our hands. Periods of silence and being wonderfully together are an important part of the retreat experience, as are the small group discussions.

SPRINGWATER CENTER is located in western New York State on over 200 acres that are part of the Allegheny Plateau.  The Center sits on a quiet hillside above Springwater Valley and the surrounding hills.  The land includes streams, waterfalls, forests, ponds, and meadows and many paths to walk on.

LODGING AND FOOD
There are accommodations available for up to 30 people.   Delicious vegan and vegetarian meals are provided.  Please indicate any special food needs on the registration.

DANA DONATIONS
At the retreat there will be an opportunity to make a donation to Joanne to support her teaching and travel.  For normally employed people, $200 is suggested in addition to the retreat cost.

RETREAT COST
For those registering by March 26, the cost of lodging and food for the four day retreat is $242.  There are a limited number of single rooms available.  The cost for a single room is $334. If you are commuting, the cost is $162.

For those who cannot attend the full retreat, the cost is prorated. However, residential spots will be given first to full time partiticpants. Complete retreat cost is due at time of registration. After March 26, please add $10 for late registration. Registration ends April 10.
